Hidden Mickey of the Week

Yak & Yeti Local Food Cafes

Description

Taking it's cue from only one part (albeit a big part) of Asia, Yak & Yeti Local Foods Cafe is essentially a Chinese take-out restaurant in Walt Disney World. After picking up your entree, you can sit outside overlooking the main Anandupur thoroughfare, which makes for some fun viewing if Kali River Rapids is particularly popular that day.

The menu includes what most would consider the staples of American-Chinese cuisine: Honey Chicken, Sweet and Sour Pork, Lo Mein, Kung Pao, and the newly popular Mandarin Chicken Salad. See the full offerings at AllEars.Net.

Other quick bite locations in Asia include Drinkwallah (frozen beverages) and Yak & Yeti Beverages (alcoholic cocktails).

History

This establishment is adjacent to, and run by the same company as, the Yak & Yeti restaurant.

Review

This is the final jewel in the Animal Kingdom's crown as King of WDW Counter Service. While certainly not comparable to the best Chinese restaurants in far-flung parts of the USA, the food is exceptional in variety for being served in a theme park. Some have said that the portions are too large, but it's hard to consider that a criticism. Just be aware that you may not need to order a dish for everyone in your party, especially if you like to share. The seating can be limited during the busy times, but it's not a long walk from several Picnic in the Park tables.

Touring Tips

  • If seating is hard to come by, consider wandering across the bridge to Discovery Island, and finding one of the many tables available behind Flame Tree Barbecue.
  • Disney Dining Plan snack credits can be used for pork egg rolls, fried rice, frozen lemonade, and mango pie.
